JEE Main 2025: How many marks are required to be eligible for JEE Advanced
The JEE Main cut-off is determined on the basis of multiple conditions. Some of the most common determining factors are the number of students appearing for the examination and the difficulty level of the question paper.
The Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) Advanced is the gateway for entry into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the dream destination for lakhs of students. However, clearing the JEE Advanced is preceded by clearing the JEE Main. One of the most important criteria that students must fulfill to be eligible for JEE Advanced is the ranking among the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main. This rank is classified on the basis of all the categories like General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD.

These ranks are distributed proportionately across these categories so that every category gets due representation, and the candidates must also satisfy other eligibility criteria regarding their academics and age so as to appear in JEE Advanced. The JEE Main cut-off is determined on the basis of multiple conditions. Some of the most common determining factors are the number of students appearing for the examination because greater participation would generally result in stiff competition, and the question paper toughness determines a cut-off to be set because a tough question paper always sets up a lower cut-off.
The number of seats in IITs and other participating institutes is another factor because fewer seats available may force the cut-off to accommodate only the creamiest of students. All these factors combine to give a different cut-off for the JEE Main every year. The expected cut-off of JEE Advanced 2025 would depend upon the results of JEE Main.
According to the previous trend, the qualifying percentile is normally 88-90 for General category, 65-70 for EWS, 68-72 for OBC-NCL, 45-50 for SC, and 30-35 for ST. In that case, the marks that might qualify for the General category would be around 100-120 marks out of 300, whereas lower marks will qualify in reserved categories. It may change every year with respect to the difficulty level of the paper.
