UGC NET December 2025 Exam Dates Announced, Check Full Schedule

The UGC NET Exam Date 2025 for the December session has been officially announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). According to the public notice issued by NTA, the UGC NET December 2025 examination—a mandatory national-level eligibility test for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professorship in Indian universities and colleges—will begin on December 31, 2025, and continue till January 7, 2026.

The examination will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple centres nationwide. Candidates will appear for the exam in two shifts per day (morning and evening), as per the subject-wise schedule released by the agency. UGC NET Exam Date 2025 December

The National Eligibility Test, popularly known as NET, is one of India’s most populous state-level examinations under the University Grants Commission (UGC). Currently NTA is tasked with conducting this UGC NET. This exam, generally, sets criteria for appointment as Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in universities and colleges across India for Indian nationals. Conducted twice every year in June and December, UGC NET is highly esteemed by people who take up research or academics as their career.

UGC NET exam date for the December cycle has been released on December 17, 2025. As per the schedule, the exam will be conducted from December 31, 2025 onwards in two shifts. NTA is likely to release the admit card for the UGC NET Dec exam in last week of December 2025.

The notice was published on the 17th of December, 2025. The UGC NET Dec 2026 examination is scheduled to take place on the 31st of December, 2025 (Wednesday). The complete Information Bulletin specifying all the details of the examination will be published on the official website.

UGC NET Exam 2025 Shift & Timing

The examination will be held in offline mode on 31st December 2025, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th January 2026 on two shifts.

Examination pattern

The UGC NET test is of two papers, both of which are conducted in one three-hour session without any break.

• Paper 1: which is common for all the candidates, contains 50 MCQs for 100 marks. The paper assesses both the teaching and research aptitude.
• Paper 2: Individual subject, has 100 MCQs worth 200 marks, examining knowledge in one among 83 subjects taught.

Question Pattern

• Total Questions: 150 (50 in Paper 1, 100 in Paper 2).
• Total Marks: 300 (100 for Paper 1, 200 for Paper 2).
• Marking Scheme: +2 marks for every right answer; no penalty for a incorrect answer.
• Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
• Language: Hindi and English.

City Intimation and Admit Card Release Dates

The examination process requires several essential documents that must be downloaded at various stages. Let us understand each of these in detail:

• City Intimation Slip

The City Intimation Slip will definitely be released around ten days before the test, so you can expect it to be released on anytime in December, 2025. This will informs you of the city where your test center will be, hence allowing you to plan your travel and accommodation requirements accordingly.

Consider the City Intimation Slip to be your advance guide. It doesn’t provide you with the exact address of the exam center, but it gives you a choice of city. This advance intimation is especially useful to those candidates who have to travel to other cities/state to appear for their examination.

• Admit Card Release

Admit card will become available a few days after the City Intimation Slip, i.e., 7-10 days prior to the exam. As per the schedule till now, the admit card will be out in the last week of December 2025.

Results and Certificates

Result Announcement: Results are usually announced 2 to 3 months after the examination on the UGC NET website. One can view results using application number and date of birth.Shortlisted candidates will be provided an e-certificate, which is valid for life for Assistant Professor eligibility and two years in the case of JRF.
